About Applying for Assistance from The Hugo Foundation

The Hugo Foundation exists to help pets who have a reasonable chance of recovery when financial barriers are the primary obstacle to care. Because our resources are limited, applications are reviewed carefully to ensure we can make the greatest possible impact for pets and their families.

In general, applications are considered when:

  1. A veterinarian believes the pet has a reasonable likelihood of recovery with treatment
  2. The pet owner has explored standard financing options (such as CareCredit) and has been denied
  3. Funds are available at the time of request

Each request is reviewed individually, and meeting these guidelines does not guarantee funding. Decisions are made based on medical need, available resources, and overall circumstances at the time of review.

We know seeking help can be stressful, and we’re grateful for the trust families place in us when applying.
