Rambunctious Ruger and the Case of the Curious Chew

  • December 11, 2025
Meet Ruger! This handsome pup has lived with his current family since December 2024. He spends his days dashing around the yard with his fur brothers, Tanner, Bear, and Chichi, and playfully chasing his cat sister Nyx around the house. But Ruger’s very favorite pastime is of course snuggling up to his best human friend, 8-year-old Makenna.
It was just another day in pawfect paradise when this curious boy ingested a puppy pad! Poor Ruger started vomiting and behaving differently than his usual happy self. Knowing something was up, his caring family brought him to our friend Dr. Potalivo at Wheatfield Animal Hospital, where it was determined that Ruger would need surgery to remove the foreign body obstructions in his tummy.
A big surgery like this is already stressful enough for a family without factoring in the cost of emergency veterinary care. That’s why we were so glad to be able to contribute $3,000 to Ruger’s surgery and recovery, so he can get back to snuggling with Makenna and spending happy days with his fur siblings.
Regarding his adventure, Ruger’s mom says: “I can’t thank you and Dr. Potalivo enough for helping to save Ruger’s life. We have only had him for 10 months, and I know he was passed around a few times right before we found him and we are just trying to give him the most loving and stress-free home possible. His 8 year old human sibling, Makenna, wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up and she had been taking such very good care of him at home, giving him extra snuggles and sharing her stuffies with him.”
Great work to Makenna, Dr. Potalivo, and our friends at Wheatfield Animal Hospital! Let’s keep providing life-saving care so that pets across Western New York can stay in the homes of the people who love them.
